MHM#68 Marketing Momentum Takes Time

attracting more clients increasing enquiries therapy marketing Jul 03, 2026

One of the hardest parts of marketing a private practice is that it often feels like nothing is happening.

You write an Instagram post. Nothing.

You publish a blog article. Nothing.

You email referrers. Nothing.

A couple of enquiries come in, maybe, but often it feels like you're talking into the void.

It's easy to assume your marketing isn't working.

But people take time to decide whether they're ready for therapy. They also take time to decide which therapist feels right for them.

Someone might discover you today, connect deeply with what you've shared, and then not book an appointment for another six months.

Someone else might follow you on Instagram for over a year before they contact you.

Another person might read three or four of your blog articles over several months before finally thinking, "I think this is the therapist I want to work with."

That is incredibly normal.

Unlike buying a pair of shoes or booking a restaurant, deciding to start therapy is often a slow decision. People are navigating fear, uncertainty, vulnerability and the hope that things really can get better. They need time.

This is why consistent, long-term marketing matters so much.

Every blog article you publish.

Every Instagram post.

Every video.

Each one becomes another touchpoint that helps someone get to know you. It builds familiarity. It builds trust. It helps people feel safer. They begin to understand how you think, how you work and what it might feel like to be in a session with you.

Then, one day, life reaches a point where they're ready.

And because you've been showing up consistently, you're already on their radar.

They don't have to start searching from scratch.

They already know your face. They've read your words. They've heard your voice. They already feel a sense of connection.

That consistency is often what makes the difference.

This is also why I encourage therapists not to judge their marketing based on what happened this week.

Marketing is cumulative.

The work you're doing today is planting seeds that may become enquiries in three months, twelve months or even several years' time.

So keep going.

Keep showing up. Keep sharing your knowledge. Keep building trust.

Momentum builds gradually through dozens of small, consistent actions that compound over time.

Before you know it, enquiries become more regular, your caseload begins to fill, and the private practice you've been working towards starts to become your reality.
